Life as a Work of Art - Becoming Who We Are: An introduction to Biography Work
April 12th 1:00-3:00, Heartfelt School, 156 High Street, Portland
In this introductory workshop participants will explore the unique thread that runs through their own life story (biography). Specifically, how the rhythms and patterns of our life can be examined through art making and conversation, giving deeper meaning to our human condition. Exploring ones biography--past, present and expectations of the future--leads to a richer understanding of oneself. What intentions do we bring forward and what comes towards us as we grow? Can we see the challenges and resistances we face as learning opportunities? Awakening meaningful understandings of the self--in a co-created way--encourages a genuine engagement with life.
Facilitator: Paul Gebhardt is the parent of two Waldorf school students, a founding member of the Heartfelt School and faculty member at the Maine College of Art. Currently a student at the Center for Biography and Social Art, Paul has over 15 years of experience working with communities and individuals as an educator, creative practitioner and facilitator.

You Are What You Think, Say And Do

Buddhism has been called “the study of the Self”. We will examine what Buddhist mean by “self”? From the meditators point of view we find that what we think drives what we say and do and to a certain extent what we say and do affects what we think. But much of what we think, say and do is completely habitual. We will look at two forms of Buddhist meditation and how these address the question of waking up from this habitual daydream– nonconceptual meditation and the Tantric practice of Deity Yoga – working with body, speech and mind.
