Coastal Youth Orchestra Spring Concert, Monday May 20th, 7PM Orion Performing Arts Center: The Coastal Youth Orchestra 's Spring Concert will be held Monday May 20th at 7PM at Orion Performing Arts Center in Topsham. The concert is free and a reception will follow. Come and enjoy a great selection of music! The program will include works by Mahler, Bizet, Rogers and Hammerstein, Leroy Anderson and theme music from Pirates of the Caribbean. CYO, directed by MWS music teacher Nancy Roderick, is comprised of three ensembles. The youth orchestra gives string students of every level a chance to play in a group with other children and to explore quality music. The Fiddleheads, CYO 's youngest group is a beginning string orchestra.The Coastal String Ensemble is an intermediate level string orchestra and the Coastal Chamber Orchestra is a more advanced ensemble that includes strings and brass. MWS students Siona Henze, Louise Ahearne and Fiona Ahearne will all be performing.
LifeWays Early Childhood Training on the coast of Maine: Registration closes June 7 for the current LifeWays training in Maine this July 7-20. Horse Riding Lessons: Winterberry Farm has openings for lessons, located in North Yarmouth 10 minutes from school. Donna Thurston is an experienced instructor who has been running a riding school in North Yarmouth for more than 30 years. This is a small, quality program on 26 acres with horses that are well trained, gentle and loving. The focus is on making a connection with horses, nature, safety and correct equestrian skills both in the ring and on the trails. Times avaliable are after school and possibly Saturday. Alewives are a migratory fish that swim to lakes and ponds in May-June to spawn. They make one of the world's great migrations and provide a chance to see wildlife in numbers that we rarely see anymore (fish, osprey, eagle, heron...) Volunteers are needed to count the alewives that pass over Nequasset fish ladder in Woolwich from May - early June. Primordial Purity and Complete Trust: The Practice of Buddhist Meditation in the Dzogchen Tradition The teachings of Buddhism point out that the basis of our present experience is “Primordial Purity.” The practice of Buddhist meditation is remarkably straightforward. We simply sit without distraction and allow our mental projections to arise and dissipate in our mind. In this way we begin to recognize the fresh, present wakefulness of reality beyond the daydreams of mental projection. This is the practice of complete trust in present awareness.
Judith Lief to lead retreat on Chögyam Trungpa’s Profound Treasury of the Ocean
