Karine Odlin, mother of Caroline, 6th grade, is excited to offer the Merriconeag community fresh, local fish: A new Community-Supported Fishery, Salt and Sea, is offering 2-month shares of fish, fresh off my family's fishing boats! Once a week, you will receive one or two pounds of sustainably harvested Gulf of Maine groundfish fillets, all wild-caught and never frozen. Salt & Sea selects its species based on healthy stock levels, and shares will include Haddock, Pollock, Acadian Redfish, Monkfish and Flounder. The cost for 1 lb is $12/week ($96 for 8 weeks) or 2 lb for $20/week ($160 for 8 weeks).Salt and Sea offers fish caught by local fishermen who use responsible harvesting practices, and who target sustainable fish stocks. We use environmentally friendly packaging and plan to turn fish waste into organic compost/fertilizer. Best of all, I will deliver your fresh fish to school on Tuesday afternoons at pick up. There will be another earlier delivery at Royal River, and we have other pick-up sites in Portland and Brunswick. For more information and to join the CSF, please go to: www.saltandsea.me. (11/13)
