MathAffect’s Grand Opening
I will be working as an educational consultant and math specialist for children in grades K-8 from many different schools, and my office will be located at Merriconeag. I can’t tell you how excited I am to be working on a deeper level with children that may be having difficulty with traditional classroom teaching, as well as with parents who would like help creating a learning plan designed to support healthy brain development. I spent my year in the Mind, Brain, and Education program at Harvard tailoring my studies to understanding how education can support brain development. Based in the latest neuroscience and math education research, MathAffect’s programming is the perfect complement to Waldorf education, as Waldorf already offers a developmental approach to learning.
Many children have difficulty with math learning at various points in their academic career, and the cause may be a learning challenge, but it also may be developmental or emotional. It is important to look at the whole child and all the different factors that are playing into the academic difficulty, such as brain development, medical, learning, or behavior issues, or other environmental factors. Math specialists work with current math content, foundation concepts that may have been missed in an earlier grade, and the child’s self-image as a math student to build confidence and skill in math learning.
Several different levels of support are available, depending on your child’s needs. If you are interested in learning more about what Math Affect has to offer, or if you would like to know more about my training and background, I would be very happy to speak with you. The best way to reach me is via email, with a phone number and a good time to call. I look forward to speaking with you, and to a wonderful year at Merriconeag.
